Hi my name is Jared I have recently just graduated from Arizona State University.  My degree was in the college of Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies.  I finished with my degree in mass communication and communication.  Mass Communication is the study of the media and how it is used in every day society.  Some of the most fascinating courses I have taken have been in this topic area such as Visual Communication and Media Ethics.  These courses encourage you to think and expand your mind.  I am now savvy in many areas of advertising and the ways that the media gets people to become loyal fans of either their shows or a product.  Media Ethics helped me become a much better journalist with the many discussions and debates in class, I have become a free thinking ethical journalists.  Communication is the study of how people communicate whether it is verbally or non-verbally, this is crucial in any form of business or interaction.  The most important aspect of communication was the writing experiences I learned because they are the most important when it comes to any career.  I have written many papers and expanded my mind to new thoughts and ideas as well as many new writing styles.  The BIS program involves the combination or hybrid of two concentration areas.  It was a great experience that has allowed me to become very well rounded in aspects of production and advertising.  I chose this degree because I believe that you can not just limit me to one degree I wanted to learn as much as I could in all topic areas and degrees.  With my passion for film and creating a show that millions of people will see inspired me to focus in on these two concentration areas.  In my BIS classes I learned how to combine and utilize my knowledge of mass communication and communication.  In my first interdisciplinary class I learned how to utilize the option of this type of double degree and how it will benefit me in the future.  The second course I had to take taught how important research is and how to incorporate research into television and movie production.  Research is vital in the media field because we as producers and directors need to know what the people want to see.  In college I also learned much about different cultures and people, through classes and social interactions.  This was an experience I will always cherish and has changed me for the better.  I hope to get into the field of television and movie production.  I am very creative and enjoy what I do and will work very hard at the task in front of me.
